Get Involved: Volunteer

There are many ways in which to become a valued part of the Engage Leeds service and make a positive contribution to peoples’ lives.

Volunteer With Engage

By volunteering with Engage, you can help create positive changes in health and wellbeing for the people we support.

Whether you have benefitted from our services yourself and would like to give back, or you simply want to make a positive contribution to your local community, we are always on the look-out for volunteers to join our team in an array of roles.

We employ 2 Volunteer Coordinators covering all areas of the city, offering a comprehensive induction programme to all new volunteers, along with 1-2-1 meetings at regular intervals to ensure volunteers feel fully supported.

Why Volunteer With Engage?

By volunteering, you can help create positive changes in health and wellbeing for the people we support. In return, we can offer you:

  • Training and self-development opportunities, including shadowing housing support workers
  • One-to-one support and mentoring in your work
  • The opportunity to shadow housing support workers
  • The satisfaction of giving valuable help to others
  • The chance to increase your knowledge about housing, homelessness and the issues people face
  • Becoming part of a team and meeting new people

Our volunteers work alongside their assigned coordinator to provide services in alignment with three key areas of focus:

Learning

  • Promoting skills for everyday living. For example, shopping, cooking and budgeting.
  • Increasing confidence in the use of public transport and self-management in crowded situations.
  • Helping people to identify and access learning opportunities.

Reducing isolation and loneliness

  • Encouraging clients to take part in physical exercise.
  • Identifying suitable local social groups and activities, and supporting people in attending them – connecting with others and building confidence.

Supporting wellbeing

  • Encouraging clients to take part in physical exercise.
  • Listening, which helps to reduce emotional stress.

Staff Recruitment

We are always looking for people who have been supported by our service to sit on interview panels to recruit Engage Leeds staff.

People who have used the service are, very often, best placed to know what is needed in terms of a good support worker.

You will get a certificate after having taken part which can be used as experience and evidence for CV’s etc.

Let's Do It

Business engagement

We are always looking to collaborate with local businesses with an active interest in helping those within the Leeds community who have fallen upon hard times.

From job schemes and temporary housing schemes through to cash donations, we have found that Leeds businesses are socially conscious with a desire to help those in need.

Get Involved

“We are all thrilled with the success of the pilot so far. While it’s rewarding to be supporting such an important cause, this initiative is by no means a selfless act of altruism.

Our newest colleague is here on merit, and we have gained a reliable and valuable employee performing a vital service who has quickly become a key part of our team.

A lot of people currently struggling to find work just need to be given a chance to show their potential and we look forward to working with Engage Leeds to find further new additions to our team”.

Paul Dodsworth, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction, North East and Yorkshire
